youtube.com — Probably the quickest save I've ever seen! Its a shame they lost in the 4th overtime. Oh well, it takes nothing away from this.

    • hotpuck6, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2That's what i was at least partially thinking. The shot was directly into his glove, and he went into position while the puck was being passed in front of him, he couldn't of reacted any other way and had a good chance of stopping it.
      It was a by the books move, but it worked out and looked pretty sweet.

  • tupperbacharach, on 05/10/2008, -6/+4The puck went past the goal line. The overhead camera is actually viewing from behind the line -- if it were directly overhead the top bar of the goal would align with the goal line.

    Moving the camera forward for this alignment would move backwards the top bar and all other objects above the line. So, the puck shown directly above the line would be positioned behind the line from a correctly aligned overhead view.

Which is true since the video doesn't show the height of the puck (which is important given the angle the camera is at) and so you can't be completely sure. But if you ask me, it was completely over.

          The video does show the height of the puck -- there was a side angle showing that it was several feet off of the ground.

        The NHL people know more about hockey than me, but they (and you) obviously know less about basic geometry than me. The puck actually went behind the line.

The crossbar should be in line with the goal line, since it is directly overhead, but in that view it is not. Because of the angle of the camera, it seemed like the puck hadn't crossed over the line entirely. If you were to look at it from completely overhead, you'd be able to see it. However, you can't get "conclusive" evidence from this because it's all just extrapolated. They should just put the damn camera directly overhead.

        Didn't end up mattering anyway.

        So, take your quarterback, and put skates on him, and let's see how well he does.

    • Kronos6948, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5You forgot that the puck isn't as huge as a soccer ball, nor is it as soft. Pucks are coming in at around 100mph...sometimes more...whereas soccer balls come in a lot slower...which is why there's more scoring in hockey than there ever was in soccer.
