The Save of the Decade [VID] watch!
youtube.com — Probably the quickest save I've ever seen! Its a shame they lost in the 4th overtime. Oh well, it takes nothing away from this.

- bstory, on 05/10/2008, -4/+23It was a great game in spite of the outcome
- ssn697, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1It was a great series. I am a huge Sharks fan, so I am very disappointed, but the series was one of the best in a long time. That save was epic. Every time they showed the replay, I would yell ;-)
- thetzfreak, on 05/10/2008, -2/+22Well done Nabokov
- supersheep7, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2If Richards had just done a couple more pushups...
- Noodleson, on 05/10/2008, -3/+42that whole game was ridiculous, best hockey game I think I've ever seen
- clickx, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2It was amazing. It proves that you don't need a ton of scoring for the game to be interesting. It was 1 to 1 for 130 mins lol.
- JeffreyLloyd, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1lol? Really?
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -1/+2The title of this story is the most amazing and greatest exaggerated title in the world of all time, ever...

- adh3isive, on 05/10/2008, -14/+4Nabokov was the most underrated goalie this year, awesome save.
- bca102, on 05/10/2008, -1/+14Underrated? He's the favorite to win the Vezina

Heck no, Stars won!!! Go Stars!!- harryterry, on 05/10/2008, -5/+12***** the stars. the wings will dominate them.
- applemachome, on 05/10/2008, -3/+3I agree. But the stars did have a shutout at home with them for the first time in several years earlier this season, one of the best games I've seen in a long time.

- AnthonyC, on 05/10/2008, -0/+33Not the best save of the decade , but an awesome save. I also loved Turco's pad slide a little after that. He had to raise his leg to get to it.
- dpgranger, on 05/11/2008, -1/+1turco's save was a lot better, much more athletic
- Skanadian, on 05/10/2008, -1/+32It's a good save and all, but not save of the decade. Tons of goalies have made that save.
- s3rgi0, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4I haven't seen one quite like that in a long time. Then take into account that Brad Richards is shooting. Oh yeah, and the fact that if Nabby doesn't make that save the Sharks are finished.
- Jeffler, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2At that speed? At that clutch of a moment? Nah.
- AnthonyC, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5I agree. Anyone who has ever played goalie for a substantial amount of time has made that save or some variation of it.
- mason55, on 05/10/2008, -0/+1Like once per practice
- happyseamonster, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Look at the over head shot. The bar is forward of the line. That means the camera is slightly back. Just as the camera angle makes the bar look more forward than it is, so too it makes the puck look more forward. It crossed the line. Digg me down, I don't care.

- musicnoteless, on 05/10/2008, -10/+22THIS IS SHARKS TERRITORY!
And his glove was all like OM NOM NOM NOM- zimmermans, on 05/10/2008, -1/+5you love memes too much.
- cuco, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1The Sharks would be ideal candidate of an OM NOM NOM NOM PR campaign... too bad that meme will probably be dead by next season
- thzae, on 05/10/2008, -17/+2Where do players hide their marijuana?
Between the stash marks.
Would they get two minutes for tripping?
Not if they spliff the defense.
But would they be stoned by the goalie?
No, they'd smoke it right between the pipes!- antiorblkflag9, on 05/10/2008, -1/+9That was really stupid.
- MikeonTV, on 05/10/2008, -7/+1Go Raiders1
- dhuang1990, on 05/10/2008, -2/+3As a fan of Sharks I am pretty familiar with Nabokov's fantastic skills. Here's another great save he's made recently:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOVUpjP6gz4 - Supernova36, on 05/10/2008, -1/+13I thought Turco's save a few minutes later was just as good...
- dvd14, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3Agreed, his kick save was awesome.
- fenix61, on 05/10/2008, -0/+32That entire game was a goaltending clinic
- antiorblkflag9, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2Shock and awe
- Scaryclouds, on 05/10/2008, -1/+1More like shot and awww *****!
- gamerfreak1203, on 05/10/2008, -2/+1H4x.
- zimmbear, on 05/10/2008, -2/+1Too bad they lost. Not really, I love the stars. Plus this was over a week ago
- Totz83, on 05/10/2008, -2/+40No, this is the best save ever! http://youtube.com/watch?v=1XuEGHHoZGM&feature=rel ...
- Locke02, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Soccer balls aren't food.
- thewhits, on 05/11/2008, -1/+2Right to the dome!...ha!
- bradpurchase, on 06/12/2008, -0/+11This is why I love playoff hockey.
- Lososaurus, on 05/10/2008, -2/+5Not to mention Turco's save a few moments later; I thought LaBarbera on the Kings wasn't bad(but by no means great), but watching Turco and Nabokov reminded me what great goaltenders great.
- albinorhino101, on 05/10/2008, -0/+0yeah I don't think it's fair to just pick this save as the best, you'd have to include Turco's they were both equally impressive.
- ToMZiLLA, on 05/10/2008, -14/+12Retarded.
I dont get why people get all excited when it's just a basic glove save. He shot directly into the glove. its just good technique- FrankTheTank17, on 05/10/2008, -2/+6Basic glove save? You wouldn't be able to make that stop to save your life. =X
- Kronos6948, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5Try playing. He went from one side to the other, and made the save. I'd say about 75-80% of the time, that would be a goal.
- hotpuck6, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2That's what i was at least partially thinking. The shot was directly into his glove, and he went into position while the puck was being passed in front of him, he couldn't of reacted any other way and had a good chance of stopping it.
It was a by the books move, but it worked out and looked pretty sweet.
- Vital8, on 05/10/2008, -0/+33this save by Sebastian Caron is awesomer
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_ei32B8cM88- novenator, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2*thought awesomer was like winningest, a non-wordicle
- s7ark, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5Great save by Nabby, likely not of the decade though. Still, a totally underrated goalie. And yeah that Caron one is one of the best. Too bad he dropped off the face of the world
As an Oiler fan I've always loved this one by Roli. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ajMDdkq-ld0&feature=rel ...
And of course this old one by Cujo. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Whms4pbgezQ - AnthonyC, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3Caron's save is 100x more impressive than Nabokov's. Unreal.
- albinorhino101, on 05/10/2008, -0/+3I was going to post that video, such a good save and I still love Crosby's "WTF!" afterwards.
- ReFleXxXxXxXxX, on 05/10/2008, -2/+1not even close to nabokov's..
- yellowfish04, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1holy *****. this was way, way more amazing. thanks for posting that.
- tupperbacharach, on 05/10/2008, -6/+4The puck went past the goal line. The overhead camera is actually viewing from behind the line -- if it were directly overhead the top bar of the goal would align with the goal line.
Moving the camera forward for this alignment would move backwards the top bar and all other objects above the line. So, the puck shown directly above the line would be positioned behind the line from a correctly aligned overhead view.- Jeffler, on 05/10/2008, -1/+7I'm 99% sure the people who work for the NHL who reviewed it and called it no goal likely know more about it than you.
- HappyScrappy, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2They ruled it wasn't conclusive enough to overrule the ruling on the ice. Which is true since the video doesn't show the height of the puck (which is important given the angle the camera is at) and so you can't be completely sure. But if you ask me, it was completely over.
- tupperbacharach, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1***Which is true since the video doesn't show the height of the puck (which is important given the angle the camera is at) and so you can't be completely sure.***
The video does show the height of the puck -- there was a side angle showing that it was several feet off of the ground.

The NHL people know more about hockey than me, but they (and you) obviously know less about basic geometry than me. The puck actually went behind the line.

- jamwil87, on 05/10/2008, -1/+4Quick someone call the N.H.L.
IT'S FLAWED!
...The puck has to completely cross the line, you're full of *****.- Kronos6948, on 05/10/2008, -1/+1Thank you. I was just going to say that the entire puck has to cross the goal line.
- Atomixor, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2What he's saying is that it did. The view from above is from a slightly tilted back angle. The crossbar should be in line with the goal line, since it is directly overhead, but in that view it is not. Because of the angle of the camera, it seemed like the puck hadn't crossed over the line entirely. If you were to look at it from completely overhead, you'd be able to see it. However, you can't get "conclusive" evidence from this because it's all just extrapolated. They should just put the damn camera directly overhead.
Didn't end up mattering anyway.- tupperbacharach, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2It is difficult to tell (without further calculation) whether or not the entire puck crossed the line, but basic geometry proves that it definitely crossed the line.
- trogdoor, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1"It is difficult to tell (without further calculation) whether or not the entire puck crossed the line"
And until you do that calculation I am going to side with the refs on this one.

- HappyScrappy, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Oh, hey. I posted the same thing below. I completely agree.
- Jeffler, on 05/10/2008, -1/+7I'm 99% sure the people who work for the NHL who reviewed it and called it no goal likely know more about it than you.
- camkind, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2Another brilliant save
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7hEPzALqeS4- JJ31, on 05/11/2008, -0/+0That is the best save of that decade considering Vancouver ended up winning that game in overtime and taking the series in seven games.
- Qazerr, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5That was awesome! I can't follow US Hockey league but here's THE save of the year from Finnish 2007 final:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXOigA7mZnQ- jon30041, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4... Those guys are COVERED in advertising.
- nmcphee, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2the comments so far have been about the NHL, which is the Canadian hockey league, not the American. The US has got a lot of stuff, but we bring the hockey.
- mudpuddle, on 05/11/2008, -0/+0And we bring 24 of the 30 teams to "your country's" league.
- godzillaWax, on 05/10/2008, -1/+3Wow, hyperbole much? That wasn't even the best save of these playoffs.
Buried as inaccurate.- collinder, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2i agree the price behind the back with the stick save... that was incredible... and im a ranger fan...

- rajputwarrior, on 05/10/2008, -2/+4hardest position in sports... hands down
- birdly, on 05/10/2008, -4/+3Not even close. A quarterback has to use his brain, his feet, his arm....all while 260 pound men try to crush him.
- rajputwarrior, on 05/10/2008, -1/+6and a goalie has to be stupid ahtletic and flexible and stop rubber flying at him at 100 mph... yeah, qb isn't has hard or intense as a goalie
- birdly, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1And the part about using his brain? My dog has great reflexes too......
Don't get me wrong, goalies are great atheletes. Quarterback is just a much harder position.
- birdly, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1And the part about using his brain? My dog has great reflexes too......
- albinorhino101, on 05/10/2008, -2/+0So...are you saying goalies just stand there and do nothing? I think you just proved your own point wrong.
- Kronos6948, on 05/10/2008, -1/+7Sometimes goalies have to be the 3rd defenseman, and any hockey coach will tell you that your best skater has to be your goalie.
So, take your quarterback, and put skates on him, and let's see how well he does.
And this comes from a football fan too.- jon30041, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2Could say take a goalie, put cleats on him, and see how well he does.
I'm not going one way or the other, but the sports are totally different, that argument is flawed. - Scaryclouds, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2So take a player and force him/her to play a sport they have never/rarely played and see if they are as good as the person who plays the sport all the time?
Whatever. - Kronos6948, on 05/11/2008, -1/+3The point I was trying to make is that anyone who plays hockey uses their "brain, feet and arms", what the OP's original argument was, all while skating.
- birdly, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1Feet and arms, yes. Brain, not nearly as much as a quarterback.
- jon30041, on 05/10/2008, -1/+2Could say take a goalie, put cleats on him, and see how well he does.

- Nayson, on 05/10/2008, -7/+6The goals are only six feet wide. Its hardly Gordon Banks vs Pelé, is it?
- Kronos6948, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5You forgot that the puck isn't as huge as a soccer ball, nor is it as soft. Pucks are coming in at around 100mph...sometimes more...whereas soccer balls come in a lot slower...which is why there's more scoring in hockey than there ever was in soccer.
- hotpuck6, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5plus shots typically come from around 5-30 feet in hockey, where most shots in soccer are from much farther.
- Nayson, on 05/11/2008, -1/+1orly?
The point is that keepers can stop a puck just by spreading themselves.
- Nayson, on 05/11/2008, -1/+1orly?
- hotpuck6, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5plus shots typically come from around 5-30 feet in hockey, where most shots in soccer are from much farther.
- Kronos6948, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2...and to add an accurate comparison, your Banks vs Pele would be the equivalent of Roy (or Brodeur , some would argue) vs Gretzky.

- hotpuck6, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2never. it's milk.
- jamwil87, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5I want to digg this because it's hockey, and a great save.
But I want to bury it because it's not the save of the decade and this happened days ago.
Meh I'll digg it. - socivitus, on 05/10/2008, -0/+0Amazing reaction time and soooooo close.
- source1984, on 05/10/2008, -5/+0oh man don't even get me started on hockey.
