The Message of Majora's Mask
zelda.vgrc.net — Clues spread throughout the final dungeon of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask hint that there's far more to the story of this Nintendo 64 game than what made it to the surface. An ancient rebellion against the Goddesses of the Triforce may be tied to the falling moon that spells doom for the world of Termina.

- antiorblkflag9, on 05/11/2008, -9/+11I didn't make it to the windmill in time, so the game made me do it again. So, I pulled a fast one on the game and turned it off never to be played again. That showed them....but seriously, I need to play that game again.
- BTraina, on 05/12/2008, -0/+10im pretty sure i did the same thing.
- sTiKyt, on 05/12/2008, -2/+5If you think you need to go to a windmill your retarded and don't deserve this game.
- antiorblkflag9, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3You have to go to a windmill in the beginning of the game. And before you call people "retarded," which I assume you are using as a synonym for "stupid" or another derogatory comment, I would recommend that you make sure you grammar is correct and you don't sound like an idiot.
- mastazed, on 05/12/2008, -0/+13not only did that make a lot of sense. this is by far the best story on digg i have seen for months
- C4PT41NM4RV3L, on 05/12/2008, -1/+8The idea of the goddess of time being Nayru would seem correct. Blue Ocarina, blue color, the laws and all of that. Also, in Oracle of Ages, she is one of the main characters, note that this is a game which involves time travel...and a lot of it at that.
- cheaptricks, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1"blue color"? Wow, what a coincidence!
- ummagummas08, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2This article reminds me of abstract thoughts that i would have under the influence of psychedelics. In fact, I did have thoughts about this while I was playing the new Zelda.. "The makers of the game are saying like, if we disrespect like, the gods, then they will like, take everything they've given us, so the message is like, obey the Gods, which displays the religious undertones present in this game"

- XenoSNK, on 05/11/2008, -0/+145It's time like these that make me think that the developers of games don't nearly have as much time on their hands to create such in depth storylines as the people who play games.
I liked this a lot.- dynelol, on 05/11/2008, -4/+29I see people discuss TONS of video games and figure out a ***** of plot holes and patch them with logic they find through TONS of NPC text and several other sources. I find myself thinking that surely the people who MADE the game didn't think about it as deeply as they did and if they read them they'd just agree with who said what made sense the best and pretend that was their actual intention.

- theodenking, on 05/11/2008, -0/+12I don't know, with a few dozen people working on a game 9-5 for a year or two you have to expect that these kind of ideas would get thrown around.
- Viend, on 05/12/2008, -0/+4Have you ever studied poetry as a part of the English subject?
My teacher would write essays regarding the poem which I doubt the author even thought about.
- tjmb9, on 05/11/2008, -0/+23well this is a phenomenon in music, film, and literature as well. Indeed, all of art, and none of it makes those "theories" any less valuable.
- GreatWhiteShaky, on 05/11/2008, -5/+8In all honesty this made very little sense to me partially because of some of the things that he cited. For example when he cites the story told by anju's grandmother, he takes it to be the back story of what happened in termina. But if you really think about it the story really explains what happens over the course of the game. The only time you ever hear the skull kid referred to as an imp is when he has the mask on so it could be assumed that the part of him that was the imp was embodied by the evil in the mask; he got the mask by "Wronging people" and as a result the title of imp and the mask were the physical embodiements of the evil things he had done because of his feelings of neglect which would be banished when the giants let the skull kid know that they hadn't forgoten him. If we are to assume that the mask is what made him the imp then that would mean that the imp was banished at the end of the game when the giants repelled the moon and the mask sales man says that "the evil has left the mask". along with that at the end of the game the mask sales man says that "you have brought many people happiness" and at the end of the story it says "and they all lived happily ever after, which would mean that the skull kid lived happily ever after because he was no longer the imp and he realized that his 4 friends hadn't forgotten him, along with the fact that all the people of termina were happy because they weren't going to die and that they no longer had to put up with the pesky imp. In addition to all of this, the story describing what would happen as the game progresses would kind of make sense because the timeline of the game didn't really flow in a straight line what with all of the going backwards or forwards through time as you please, and it actually supports the foresight of the old women in telling what would come. but this is merely my interpretation and may not be correct.
Another problem i had was that he refered to the cut scene of link becoming the deku scrub and then returning to human as having some deep symbolizm; when you really think about it though it really isnt. all those cut scenes meant was that initially link had no control over become the deku scrub but by the second cutscene where he diddnt run from the scrub, he was then able to control the scrub(when he became it).- luchid, on 05/11/2008, -1/+17Punctuation. - kevisazombie, on 05/11/2008, -1/+13The Enter key. Use it.
- Maratanos, on 05/12/2008, -2/+13Some good points, actually, although I agree with everyone else that almost nobody's gonna actually read that. I see several points here and I'd like to adress some of them.
1. "If you think about the story it really just explains what happens over the course of the game." This is wrong, obviously. I could go into all sorts of levels of detail as to why this is wrong, but it's simplest just to point to the first sentence. "This tale's from long ago." While it's plausible that the tale actually is more like a prophecy, that's an assumption we could do without. Besides, there's other problems with this interpretation, namely that if this were a story about the story of the game, where's Link? There's no Link, there's just the people calling out to the giant. But if it were the people calling out to the giant, then the parallel collapses, because the people could have called out to the giants without link's help, and indeed, it's because the imp IMPRISONED the giants within the bosses of the four dungeons that they couldn't just waltz in and solve the problem right away. The very concept of the game, having to clear the dungeons, is a striking counterpoint to your entire idea here.
2. The imp = the mask. Not so. "Now then...There was one who was shocked and saddened by all this. A little imp." If this were to go by your theory, the imp was already wearing the mask at this point. Which would be ridiculous, because the mask is what made the imp evil, and he wouldn't have been "shocked and saddened" that his *friends* were leaving.
3. "He got the mask by wronging people." Well that's funny, isn't it? He didn't. He got the mask FROM wronging people. You're presupposing your conclusion, and thus confusing the two stories. Outside of this story, the imp commits a single act of wrongdoing: he knocks out the Happy Mask salesman and stealing Majora's Mask. But you can't go from there to concluding that wearing the mask and being the imp was an embodiment of wrongdoing, because that's only true if the two stories are the same. A fallacy we like to call "begging the question."
5. The story representing the game makes sense because of the song of time. And here the sad fact is revealed. Even if we make all your ridiculous assumptions and treat your entire theory at face value, this still doesn't work. The time travel is a 3-day local phenomenon. While it's true you might plausibly be able to argue all sorts of things within that three-day period, it DOESN'T MATTER. Why? Because the story is not 3 days old. It's been around long enough that Anju's grandmother recited it to the REAL Tortus, which places it entirely beyond the control of a 3-day time loop.- SevanElevan, on 05/12/2008, -0/+14The number 4. - 4d669, on 05/11/2008, -10/+2This is what happens when you don't get laid in a very very long time. You start finding meaning in things you actually achieved instead of real life.
- YojimboJango, on 05/12/2008, -0/+9Actually the reality of it is that the game writer produces a huge epic story line and the people that actually build the game hack the parts out that they don't have time for or can't find a way to express.
Writing an outline of a huge story is easy, actually implementing it is the hard part. - Tearlock, on 05/12/2008, -0/+6I would direct you to a little game called Morrowind and then ask you to re-evaluate that statement.
- thePredator50, on 05/12/2008, -1/+0Morrowind is a PC game. With a PC games you have limitless space to work with. And Nintendo had very little cartridge space for MM. It was way harder to fit stuff into games before CDs became popular.

- GlitchEnzo, on 05/11/2008, -3/+176I'm simply amazed by the amount of research and analyzation that the author must have done in order to write this article. Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game because it seems to have so much more depth and character interaction than any other Zelda. I'm always happy to see other people giving it the attention it deserves.

- LocalDocal, on 05/11/2008, -0/+19Agreed 100%. This, frankly, was one of the most amazing and revealing reads I had in a long time, and it's only the second game plot analysis I've read (the first being Silent Hill).
As a long time Nintendo fan, it's unfortunate but I had reached the point where I pretty much assumed all Nintendo storylines ran along the lines of 'Save the Princess/Village'. Who knew Nintendo could create a storyline involving the concept of faith, human defiance against gods, and allusions to the Bible?- DOTQWERTY218, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2Yeah.. really this was an inspiring read.

- OccultVariable, on 05/12/2008, -2/+9I agree. Majora's Mask is definitely the best game in the series. Even as a child, I could tell that it had more depth than Ocarina of Time.
- Chadbr0chill17, on 05/12/2008, -0/+4I also agree. Games that give me a surreal feeling like "is this really happening to the characters?" really stick with me
- Elliottx, on 05/11/2008, -68/+13I never actually bothered to play Majora's Mask, because I couldn't stand the 3 day ***** time limit. But if it weren't for that I'd probably still be playing it now trying to get everything in the game >_>
- Frozenfuryblade, on 05/11/2008, -1/+44Um, you did get far enough to get the ocarina that let you reverse that right? Just making sure.
- ZenMojo, on 05/11/2008, -1/+21To be fair, if someone told me that level 6 of Top Gun was ***** awesome, I'd still point out the aircraft carrier at the end of level one.
- Jaidee, on 05/11/2008, -0/+9You want to see level 7. Naked chicks.

- ZenMojo, on 05/11/2008, -1/+21To be fair, if someone told me that level 6 of Top Gun was ***** awesome, I'd still point out the aircraft carrier at the end of level one.
- thebellmaster1x, on 05/11/2008, -1/+12That time limit was more than enough to accomplish everything in the game.
- RAEP, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3especially when you slow time down.
- solid12345, on 05/12/2008, -0/+4Maybe some of us aren't in a rush to accomplish the game, the Zelda series has never historically been a time trial game, it is supposed to be about exploring and checking areas.
- AmaDaden, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2And this one is. There really is no time limit. One of the first things you get is the ability to reset the clock. This eliminates the time limit and makes the 3 day limit it in to a minor aggravation if anything. The detail in the world of Majora's mask made this game much more fun to explore then most other zelda games. Any one who did not play it because of the time limit is really missing out.
- MrGiblets, on 05/11/2008, -3/+1It can definately be really frustrating at first. Took me awhile to the hang of that element, but it does get better and less frustrating as you progress. Very fun game (although less polished than most Nintendo games).
- solid12345, on 05/11/2008, -8/+6All the Zelda rabid fans dugg you down but I was in the same boat, it is a Zelda game for christ's sake, I wanted to explore on my own and marvel at the nice polygon environment and boom, time is up and i'm dead.
- Elliottx, on 05/11/2008, -1/+4Yeah, and that damn falling moon sequence every few hours pissed me off too. Yeah we get it, the moons falling, no need to interrupt me slashing the ***** out of an annoying bird-vulture-squid thingy for a 5 minute sequence of 3 guys with constipation...>__>
- MrSlumberjack, on 05/12/2008, -1/+6I'm gonna have to agree with you. The whole time limit thing made it seriously lose some appeal to me... even if you can slow it down, its still kinda lame. It takes away the freedom that you have in the other games to just putter around and play with random *****.
- Elliottx, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2Mhmm. Remember on Ocarina of time when you would spend HOURS getting the poes or just whacking those weird rocks with different ***** to see the reactions. Or even playing the ocarina in front of everything...fun times =/
- Frozenfuryblade, on 05/11/2008, -1/+44Um, you did get far enough to get the ocarina that let you reverse that right? Just making sure.
- strobelite33, on 05/11/2008, -9/+46As much as I'd like to believe they put that much depth and breadth into the Zelda stories, it just seems a little far-fetched. Dugg but balanced with a sad face for wishing it was true: :-(

- Kakemonstere, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2Have you?
- mathcreative, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2The conclusion outlines how the whole story revolves around faith. It even talkes about how this authour believed that Nintendo wanted to make a whole game dedicated to this theme. I believe that to be true, because faith is such a abstract theme, that deserves more then to be slapped on another game as a sidetheme.
- mathcreative, on 05/12/2008, -3/+2Read the conclusion
- bonk2k, on 05/12/2008, -0/+10Trust me, if anything, the author of that article isn't looking deep enough. - slimscane, on 05/11/2008, -3/+19I thought that MM did just about everything better than OoT. I also think that Perfect Dark did just about everything better than Goldeneye. I don't see how a game that takes everything from it's predecessor and improves them could be worse. Lets be honest here, you didn't need the MEMORY EXPANSION PACK to play OoT did you? You have no idea what that 4mb does for a game.
- Muncher, on 05/11/2008, -7/+10Two words: "time limit."
Nothing drains the enjoyment from a game more than making me feel like I have to rush, even if it gives me "plenty of time."- MasterGrief, on 05/11/2008, -4/+5Precisely. Majora's Mask, to me, will forever be marred by the time limit and the unrelenting feeling of darkness. I'm not saying I want a game full of puppy dogs and rainbows, unicorns and happy faces, but it seemed like there was never a light-hearted moment in Majora's Mask that lasted more than a few seconds. That whole experience was filled with overtones of doom... You only needed to look at the sky and see that freaky looking moon to realize this.
- StealthTomato, on 05/11/2008, -1/+15Precisely the point. Majora's Mask was _intended_ to be "darker" than OoT.
One need only look at the method for obtaining each of the masks for this.- MasterGrief, on 05/12/2008, -0/+5Well I didn't think it was darker by accident, man.
- Muncher, on 05/11/2008, -7/+10Two words: "time limit."
- XeroPhoenix, on 05/11/2008, -2/+7Comparing Perfect Dark to GoldenEye and Zeldo MM to Oot are the same case: they're both awesome, but the first one is considered a classic because it was the first one there. Although I can't say GoldenEye is much better than Perfect Dark (or vice versa), I can, however, say that OoT may be better than MM.
Muncher had it right: time limit.
There are two things in games that we all hate: time limits, and those damn water levels. *shake fist angrily*- StealthTomato, on 05/11/2008, -0/+8You forgot escort missions.

- FutureSandwhich, on 05/11/2008, -2/+20This was my favorite Legend of Zelda game. I like the whole motif of death and healing, it made the game that much more interesting to me.

- f4nt0m4s, on 05/11/2008, -1/+105Majora's only drawback was that it was a much more involved Zelda game than previous installments. Because of the level of depth and the amount of time needed just to make some forward progress, Majora's Mask became one of those games I could only find time to play during the summer. Also, it probably alienated a lot of the casual gaming crowd. But, personally, I think it is the freshest Zelda game to follow in the footsteps of Ocarina of Time. While Wind Waker and Twilight Princess felt like extensions of Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask felt like a completely different and original experience.
Dugg for Majora's Mask.- lansuggs, on 05/11/2008, -0/+28Twilight princess felt so much like OoT in many aspects... but of course with all it's improvements. It would be insane if they applied the same idea with Majora to a Wii game as a sequel to TP. Would be an incredible game.
- StealthTomato, on 05/11/2008, -1/+14If by that you mean a "darker" plotline, I'd be all for it. But if you mean the "3-day-limit" thing, I'm not so sure...
- Andrwmorph, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3Interesting game mechanics scare me too :(
- StealthTomato, on 05/11/2008, -1/+14If by that you mean a "darker" plotline, I'd be all for it. But if you mean the "3-day-limit" thing, I'm not so sure...
- DarQraven, on 05/11/2008, -0/+20Very true. I'm currently replaying MM because I never managed to finish the game when it was originally released. Back then I was like .. 14 years old? And the game was just too hard for me. As it is right now, I find it quite challenging to find all those damn lost fairies, let alone all those years back. And that was until I ever got to stone tower temple. Frick'n impossible. However, I still find this to be the most memorable Zelda game. While OoT still has a special place in my heart because it was my first encounter with Zelda games and one of the best games ever made at the same time, MM was so original in both it's style, gameplay mechanics like the 3-days-system, bomber's notebook, it's and puzzle design. Also, all the masks rocked.
- dynelol, on 05/11/2008, -0/+17MM has the hardest dungeons AND the hardest bosses. Stone Tower is up there with Water Temple in my opinion.
- SuperSunny, on 05/11/2008, -1/+8Gah the Water Temple. That was quite the experience. Such a good game.
- Rendonsmug, on 05/11/2008, -0/+5Hmmm, I never got why OOT's Water Temple was so hard for so many people. I remember back to the few years after it came out all my friends would have me beat it for them. Personally, I found the fire temple to be more frustrating, but for different reasons.
- doshindude, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3The Water Temple is like Hyrule Field compared to Stone Tower Temple.
- Andrwmorph, on 05/12/2008, -1/+3Remember the water temple from master quest? INSANE!
- doshindude, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1MQ's water temple was actually much easier than the original to my disappointment
- Belldanime, on 05/11/2008, -1/+22I was like 12 when I passed this game, and I was a girl.
That one scene when Anju and Kafei are reunited always got to me.
"We'll greet the morning, together."
I'd reunite them even after already getting the mask, just because I wanted to see that scene again. Made me cry like a pussy.- linuxrocks2007, on 05/11/2008, -0/+48You WERE a girl?!
- Belldanime, on 05/12/2008, -3/+21Girl then, woman now. Diggers afraid of those too?
- achoi, on 05/12/2008, -1/+6nah, it was the way it was worded. Kinda implied that you had a sex change due to the omission of reference to age rather than reference to gender.

- dynelol, on 05/11/2008, -0/+17MM has the hardest dungeons AND the hardest bosses. Stone Tower is up there with Water Temple in my opinion.
- TheGooseyOne, on 05/11/2008, -1/+25Yeah, I knew a lot of people who hated MM for that reason. That it wasn't OoT2. I loved that it wasn't. It was like The Legend of Zelda: Back to the Future. A truly glorious combination :P
But seriously, it was very underrated. I remember spending hours just finding the little easter eggs and learning people 3-day routines down to the inch. Remember the photographer whose house you could sneak it and take pics of him with his GF. I want more spicy love affairs in my Zelda games.- KingBabi, on 05/12/2008, -0/+4The Legend of Zelda: Back to the Future. No greater words have ever been spoken.
I also loved ages for the same reason.
- KingBabi, on 05/12/2008, -0/+4The Legend of Zelda: Back to the Future. No greater words have ever been spoken.
- IxSamsonxI, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1You speak the truth. This game was very involved with characters, memories, their life (and death) and their emotions. And I love it.
- lansuggs, on 05/11/2008, -0/+28Twilight princess felt so much like OoT in many aspects... but of course with all it's improvements. It would be insane if they applied the same idea with Majora to a Wii game as a sequel to TP. Would be an incredible game.

- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -3/+58On a more REFLECTIVE note, does ANYONE remember the genuinely massive for its time viral marketing that went on for this game? There were at least 3 separate viral sites for this game, and anyone who credits that i like bees ***** for anything deserves a giant moon to the head. Majora's Mask blew my mind with its viral campaign which effortlessly matched the creepiness of the game itself. I'd never seen anything like it, and after being raped by OoT it had me under full control.
- Fiyerstorm, on 05/11/2008, -7/+9Couldn't of said that better. Majora's Mask is such an undercredited game. It's my #1 favorite game of all time.

- spacerobot, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0I believe that zelda radio was one of them (the only one I remember). I also remember there were "sightings" of majoras mask, like people saw clouds shaped like majoras mask, etc.

thats some foresight on Nintendo's part to know Firefox would exist all these years later.- joemofo214, on 05/11/2008, -23/+6too bad it isnt from nintendo. read the url before u blame a company.
- imikedaman, on 05/11/2008, -2/+12Wow, massive fail on your part. He was joking that the FireFox error was the hidden message in Majora's Mask, which would mean Nintendo was able to predict that something named FireFox would exist in the future. He wasn't blaming anything.

- Syphon8, on 05/11/2008, -0/+22The creepiness of walking into the moon and seeing what it was like is still only rivaled by the little sisters in Bioshock.
- Scira, on 05/11/2008, -4/+18Majora's Mask was great, sadly I did not have enough dedication to find all the masks without spoilers. Also I don't like being a 10 year old.
- TheGooseyOne, on 05/11/2008, -5/+9it was actually set a year after OoT. So, Link was 11.
- doshindude, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1No it wasn't, it was 3 months after OoT.
- dynelol, on 05/11/2008, -1/+9If you were japanese, you'd probably REALLY hate being a 10 year old.
- YellowSnowDemon, on 05/11/2008, -0/+13Irony. You don't like being a 10 year old - I'm assuming you think that makes it kiddy or takes away from the atmosphere. But anyway, Majora's Mask is the darkest Zelda game in existance. That game is seriously creepy at times.
- dynelol, on 05/11/2008, -2/+6What was creepy except for the moon's face?
- linuxrocks2007, on 05/11/2008, -0/+11Play the game. It's not just the characters that are dark, the game's atmosphere is really deep.
- YellowSnowDemon, on 05/11/2008, -0/+14The dialogue. The twisted stories behind each mask. Characters actually die. There is a scene featuring the traumatization of a little girl. You can replicate yourself into soulless statues. The game is just plain weird.
- patthew, on 05/11/2008, -0/+10I've got to agree about the girl being abducted by alien things. You'd go back to the farm on the third day and the little girl would be staring off, glassy eyed and mumbling. Man, to this day that still seems creepy to me.
- YellowSnowDemon, on 05/12/2008, -0/+9I had forgotten about that. I meant the little girl who gets attacked by her zombified father.
- MutatedNantuko, on 05/11/2008, -0/+7Forest temple, anyone? Where the lights would completely go out and you'd get swarmed by the black sprite guys. Plus, the music was creepy as hell.
- KingBabi, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2In OOT's defense, Forest Temple was the god damn most atmospheric locale in any game, ever.
- dynelol, on 05/11/2008, -2/+6What was creepy except for the moon's face?
- Scaryclouds, on 05/11/2008, -1/+4Is that perhaps not another underpinning of the faith theme? Kids are typically full of doubt.

- tomjm5000, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2Sigh, I was going to make the argument this was too much for me even as a nintendo fanboy, and found that Digg wouldn't let me take the comment back.
- Schleiden, on 05/11/2008, -1/+12MM has always been my favorite Zelda. Not to rag on OoT, but I thought Nintendo did a much better job with it... really pushed the edges of the N64 and the Zelda series.
- Mechanicat, on 05/11/2008, -1/+10Is majora's mask any good on n64 emulators for pc? I've played Ocarina on the gamecube and it was terrific! Wind-walker was average.
- kevdotbadger, on 05/11/2008, -0/+4Yeah! I use sixtyforce (OSX) and it runs great. So i think it'll work grand.
- lolgamoff, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3does it work now? because i played all the way to where you get the lens of truth in the mountain and it ended up having a graphical error making it unplayable :( have they fixed that?
- ZER0JACK, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2I had the same problem with Project64. You could always just levitate up there with the built-in cheat engine.
- lolgamoff, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3does it work now? because i played all the way to where you get the lens of truth in the mountain and it ended up having a graphical error making it unplayable :( have they fixed that?
- shadowblade989, on 05/11/2008, -0/+11I strongly recommend getting a controller - I had a really hard time aiming the bow with a keyboard (unless you have an emulator than can handle a mouse, of course)
And its wind waker, not walker- Mechanicat, on 05/11/2008, -0/+5Specifically an n64 controller? Or will a generic pc pad do? Yeah, its wind waker, cognitive error.
- SuperRoach, on 05/11/2008, -0/+4I bought a fun little usb box that has a different controller port on each end. Lets me try a xbox, ps2, gamecube, and I think even a n64 controller... could I use one of those things? might be gaming bliss being able to use the original ones.
- lolgamoff, on 05/11/2008, -0/+4Xbox 360 wired controllers are USB. you can get drivers for any OS for it (works amazingly in OS X)
the 360 controller really is wonderful for any type of game youre playing - shadowblade989, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2I got a nice wireless logitech pad thats a lot like a PS2 controller.
- Tollofsen, on 05/12/2008, -2/+2Wind Walker Texas Ranger. Now that would have rocked.
- Mechanicat, on 05/11/2008, -0/+5Specifically an n64 controller? Or will a generic pc pad do? Yeah, its wind waker, cognitive error.
- TheGooseyOne, on 05/11/2008, -3/+10or you all can go somewhere, buy a N64 for $10 and MM used for $5. Then play it on your TV for great success.
- MrTankJump, on 05/11/2008, -2/+5its actually like 30 for the 64 and 40 for mm
- crimsonalucard, on 05/11/2008, -3/+6or you can download an emulator and the game in a couple minutes for ZERO dollars for even greater success. Not to mention that the graphics resolution will be much higher.
Project 64 is the best N64 emulator out there right now.- Mechanicat, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3Sound, I'll look into that one.

- jmbrysk, on 05/11/2008, -1/+24The whole "phallus" thing was really, really farfetched. But the rest of it made a LOT of sense
- v1c1ous, on 05/11/2008, -2/+15yeah. he brought up the fact that banjo-tooie had a penis shaped pond thing as evidence that nintendo had put in phallic imagery in its games, but he failed to realize banjo tooie was made by Rare, NOT Nintendo.
Rare also made Conker's bad fur day. a game where a big breasted flower has offscreen sex with a drunk king bee. - Chubs879, on 05/11/2008, -0/+6I partially agree.
However, the finger thing is all the sense you need to accept the Tower of Babel theory.

- BobbyMC, on 07/21/2008, -1/+24Potentially the greatest videog ame story of all time, and you know what?
I've only played my original gold cart at most 3 times because I'm too intimidated and creeped out by the game to play it as unquestioningly as I have OoT a million times.
This may have in itself been the greatest Dugg article of all time.- lolgamoff, on 05/12/2008, -2/+11I have the gold cart. I feel so special.
- MJDub, on 05/12/2008, -0/+5Haha I remember the gold cart deal. Weren't they all gold for MM though?
For OoT I remember having the choice of getting the gray cart then, or waiting for the gold cart to get to the store 3 days later. As much as I wanted that "special" gold cart, I wanted to play OoT immediately even more, so gray it was. Dugg for making me remember that.- frygar, on 05/12/2008, -0/+6The "gold cart" for MM was a special pseudo-holographic 3-D sticker that showed Link thrusting his sword toward the viewer. The later carts, if I'm not mistaken, were still gold, but had a plain sticker with the same image on them instead.
- TheGooseyOne, on 05/11/2008, -3/+14Man...Its been 8 years since I've played this game. I need the pics to understand this. Anyone got a better mirror?

- rubio001, on 05/11/2008, -1/+8Now THIS is a storyline with depth that my brain craves that makes me wish their were a Zelda movie -- hell, any kind of movie with this kind of depth would be great.
- Terasiel, on 05/11/2008, -1/+4Am I the only one that thought the entire game was simply a dream? A complex dream that occurred after he was knocked off his horse. Still, good theory.
- thePredator50, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3There is a lot of evidence against that theory but it's an interesting though. ;) If you got any other ideas, you're more than welcome to join the forum and discuss them. :)
- FeebleMan, on 05/12/2008, -0/+4There was already a Zelda game that was entirely a dream. Link's Awakening. It was the first one I played and it still holds a dear spot for me, even though it is no longer my favorite in the series.
- 36CrzyFsts, on 05/12/2008, -9/+0you sound like a gay....
- cuco, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2After reading all of that it did make me remember how great Link's Awakening was to the Zelda series at the time and I kinda regret dropping out of the games that came after during the N64/GBA/GC/DS days, once finals are done I'm gonna try to find that GC Zelda collection I regret not having bought a while ago...
- mimigins, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2I love replaying the game just to get all the masks.
- LongZiLing, on 05/11/2008, -0/+7Reading this makes me want to play it all the more again.
- Chode2235, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1Agreed, but I always hated the save system. Its like you had to dedicate a couple hours at each go round to make any progress. I loved the game, but never felt like I was making any progress ever.
- kdamp, on 05/11/2008, -0/+22When I played MM I made sure to get all the masks so I got the final mask. However, in my excitement for the final boss fight, I didn't even think about putting it on. It was such an amazingly challenging/entertaining fight without the mask. I remember having to dive in and slash with the giant sword and dive back out again and get my shield up, having to time everything perfectly. When I went back later and did the fight with the mask on, it was nowhere near as much fun.

- MJDub, on 05/12/2008, -1/+8In fact, they are known for their difficulty. Just refer to many of the other comments.
- Ouchimoo, on 05/12/2008, -1/+2I did the same thing in Oot. I played with half my hearts, half my magic and non of the goddess spells. Now I suppose it's the reason why I haphazardly defeat all games without getting everything useful. It just adds a whole level of challenge to be short handed.
- DarkprinceArmon, on 05/13/2008, -1/+1too bad that you have to pick up the heart containers in Twilight Princess :(
- spacerobot, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0I wish I would have played the last fight without the mask. I was so into th game that I made sure I collected EVERYTHING (everything except for the fairy sword. I was just one fairy shy, and that temple is impossible). before I played the last fight. I really need to find the time to go back and play through it again.

I'd always freak out that I wouldn't have enough time. - xblackxfalconx, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2Majora's Mask is definitely one of the best games for the N64. The game had depth and took careful planning to get everything done in the time allowed. The only thing that I did not like about the game was Tingle. Tingle was annoying as all hell. Regardless, the game is still innovative and amazing.
- MutatedNantuko, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2I think tingle was more creepy than annoying. I mean, it's a grown man that wants to literally be a child forever.
- StealthTomato, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Also, I think Tingle's craziness might support this "tower of babel" theory; Tingle carries on what is now the "legend" of the Kokiri, desiring to be one of them.
When Link comes, dressed as Kokiri, Tingle is both fascinated and obsessed.
