05/10/08 POINTSHAVERS.COM - The NY Yankees are hoping to beat the Detroit Tigers for the first time this year. They were swept by the Tigers in Yankee Stadium for the first time since 1966; and the Yankees were outscored 20-10 in three games played without Alex Rodriguez. Last night, the Yankees traveled to Detroit to open another 3 game series with the Tigers. The result this time, was much closer. The Yankees lost 6-5 after falling short in a 3-run ninth inning rally. Yankee pitching was mediocre yet again as Triple A call-up Kei Igawa lasted only three and a half innings. He allowed 6 runs on eleven hits. Unfortunately, by the time the relief pitching was able to shut down the Tiger offense, the Yankees found themselves behind, 6-1 Today, another Triple A call-up takes the mound. Rookie RHP Darrell Rasner will get his second start for the Yankess today. Rasner was simply magnificent in his 2008 Yankee home debut allowing only 2 earned runs and striking out 4 in an 8-2 rout of the stumbling Seattle Mariners. Today, Rasner faces a much more difficult test on the road against the dangerous Tigers. Yesterday, the Yankees had the motive to beat the Tigers. Today they have the means.
