Brett Favre: Packers being dishonest, let me play elsewhere
news.yahoo.com — ..."either you give me my helmet, welcome back, or release me, or attempt to trade me. We all know that's a possibility, but way-out-there possibility" ...apparently now, they're trying to protect my legacy by bringing me back and having me be a backup. Boy, that is really good." .

- beahmad, on 07/15/2008, -39/+117Just go away. I hate when sports stars pretend to quit to reaffirm their importance. Favre was great, he was ***** amazing, but this is a douche move.
- fadetoone, on 07/15/2008, -24/+2If he was up for the biggest douche in the universe award, he might just beat a giant douche for the win...
- slifty, on 07/15/2008, -17/+29YEAH! That guy is such a douche bag for wanting to continue to play a sport that he obviously loves.
Now that I think about it, people shouldn't be allowed to change their minds about anything once they decide to stop.- 9bpm9, on 07/15/2008, -26/+5He cried on ***** national television. Favre is a *****.
- NachoBusiness, on 07/16/2008, -2/+2What he obviously loves at this point is the attention... this happens absolutely every off season and it's worse every time. Favre clearly enjoys playing the soap opera star.
- romeyinfc, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Not when this is the third year in a row when this has happened, and he virtually strung them up to Training Camp Eve last year.
- leetninja, on 07/15/2008, -20/+4someone call whine one one and get the waaaaaambulance for this clown!
- Polarize, on 07/15/2008, -2/+7Someone get you an imagination and some creativity!
I would punch you for your trite, elementary-school ***** if I could. - leetninja, on 07/15/2008, -4/+3good luck to you buddy ... thats all i have to say ...
go cry because your hero is a sackless baby and has fallen from grace! OH NO WHAT WILL YOU DO WITHOUT BRETT FAAAAAAAAVRE!!!??! go die ...
- Polarize, on 07/15/2008, -2/+7Someone get you an imagination and some creativity!
- PullingTeeth, on 07/15/2008, -3/+50I don't know what would be weirder, seeing Favre play for a team other than the Packers, or him as a backup.
- inigomntoya, on 07/15/2008, -1/+11He should read a page out of the Steve Young/Joe Montana play book. He has hit the high point of his career - he needs to call it quits before he becomes a washed out/injured has been.
However, if I were the owner of another NFL team and I was watching Favre ride the bench - I would make an offer he and the Packers could not refuse. There is just too much talent to bench.- tkonopkaz06, on 07/15/2008, -2/+7Your comment makes no sense. Steve Young was forced into retirement due to head injuries. Joe Montana played from KC well after his prime.
- diggduggjoe, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3Favre should take the Packer bench, if he has to. I have a feeling that Rodgers will get hurt and Favre would be needed then. I would prefer they release him, though. If, you do not want him, fine. Let him move on as the team has.
- dizturbd2, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Joe shoulda never went to KC. My rookie card was worth much more his last season with the 49'ers than any time he spent in KC. Brett will always be my fav, but go out ON TOP, not when the ride starts going downhill.
- TheInformer, on 07/15/2008, -10/+3If Favre plays for another team, he should change the spelling of his last name to match the pronounced version...
"FARVE'- admdrew, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2You know, it's *his* name. Why does it bother you so much?
- souporjoe, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5if i were him, i'd be alright with coming back as a backup. how many int's will rodgers get to throw before they bring favre off the bench ala kurt warner?
- akeldama, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1That's funny, bringing Favre off the bench because someone else is throwing interceptions! He's not called Mr. 288 for nothing.
- PullingTeeth, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4akeldama: Nobody calls him Mr. 288. More people care that he's thrown 442 TD passes.
- inigomntoya, on 07/15/2008, -1/+11He should read a page out of the Steve Young/Joe Montana play book. He has hit the high point of his career - he needs to call it quits before he becomes a washed out/injured has been.
- ericjohnson0, on 07/15/2008, -20/+49He's been jerking everyone around for years with the prospect of leaving and then coming back... He went out pratically on top with a boatload of records and a superbowl ring...
Sorry Brett, time to go buddy.- justinp, on 07/15/2008, -3/+3All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die.
- enders, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4ok...
- HoratioHellpop, on 07/15/2008, -0/+0Thanks, Roy.
- maddendude, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Its like an old person in a retirement home. The guy wants to get out and do something with his life, but the home is making him stay in, and only letting him out when they need a replacement bingo player. Who's the one being a douche?
- Midgetelf, on 07/16/2008, -1/+0Yeah... speaking of records, didn't he set the record for most interceptions the game after setting the record for most touchdown passes? (Not to meantion, with how long he was (is) in the NFL, how can you not set such records?). I like Favre, but he's old and over-rated. He was one of the best quarterbacks in history, but there are other reasons they'd want to make him second string besides having "dedicated themselves" to someone else. Only reason he made it so far last year was because of the full team's effort.
- justinp, on 07/15/2008, -3/+3All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die.
- wonderbriefs, on 07/15/2008, -2/+15The prospect of Brett retiring was up in the air for I dunno, the last decade. Then when he finally did it, it was like, "okay, time to close that chapter and start a new one." What's he doing talking about coming back? I just don't see that there's a graceful way to do it. If he goes to another team you can bet that the people of Green Bay are gonna be bitter at him. If he comes back as a starter for the Packers, a lot of the fans will be divided over whether or not he's preventing some new blood from rejuvenating the team. The best idea in my opinion would be for him to come back as a backup, but even then he would seem like some old relic that we can't just let go of. He may still have some game in him, but after talking about retirement for this many years, then finally doing it only to try to pull a Jay-Z, that's a bad move.
I've really got to wonder, how much did he really want to retire in the first place? Was he really trying to play up his image by retiring and making a comeback, or were the coaches really putting the heat on him to get out?- Submerge, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5The thing about being a backup is, he almost brought the team to the Super Bowl last year. So very close.
- romeyinfc, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1And then he threw the interception that cost them all
- coreman, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Just to be nice, Green Bay should trade him to the Detroit Lions. For whatever, maybe a couple of 7th round draft picks in 2015.
- Submerge, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5The thing about being a backup is, he almost brought the team to the Super Bowl last year. So very close.
- legendxx, on 07/15/2008, -32/+29As a Bear's fan I am so happy he has decided to tarnish his legacy by acting like a complete douchebag
- phoenixshard, on 07/15/2008, -4/+9I was leaning more towards whining crybaby myself.
- Chode2235, on 07/15/2008, -8/+24Stay classy Chicago.
- Chaotics, on 07/15/2008, -2/+10Ya.. because it would be completely unlike a Packers fan to bash a Chicago player.
- ToRoE, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3I can agree legend! woot.
and if he really does not get that his legacy IS being protected, then he is dumber then I thought... - WELLDOITLIVE, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1A whale's vagina
- Submerge, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6You should be begging Favre to come to Chicago. All you guys have is Orton and Grossman, both are even bigger jokes than Favre wanting to come back!
- legendxx, on 07/15/2008, -2/+3Favre's last season in the NFL (thus far): He lost to the bears twice and his last pass was an INT.. If the bears go 2-14 but beat the packers twice that is considered a winning season.
- arybarczyk24, on 07/15/2008, -0/+1i am a huge bears fan, and even i agree that Favre would be alot better coming to start for the bears than Grossman. that guy is a ***** bag.
- WELLDOITLIVE, on 07/15/2008, -3/+1A fan of a bear's what?
- settlesdown, on 07/15/2008, -1/+0And you have affirmed yours by being a douchebag "Bear's'" fan.
- acevoncash, on 07/15/2008, -9/+10farve somewhere else just doesn't feel.. right.
- TheGreatBelow, on 07/15/2008, -10/+6I thought brett confirmed that he wasn't coming back?
- leetninja, on 07/15/2008, -3/+10he did - then he changed his whiny mind and wanted to play ... this is the THIRD time he has done this
- diggduggjoe, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2He was forced to decide early by the team. He changed his mind and the team said no. I do not think he really wanted to retire, but in March it is hard to let go of the last year in order to move onto the next year. It still stings that they keep declining Moss. That is the team saying we will not give you the tool to succeed, so just leave.
- leetninja, on 07/15/2008, -3/+10he did - then he changed his whiny mind and wanted to play ... this is the THIRD time he has done this
- mywhitenoise, on 07/15/2008, -11/+4Didn't he just retire last month?
- leetninja, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6yes but why would that count for anything when you cry on TV and retire you can just say "hey guys just kidding im back!" and then everyone will love you again right?
- nevetssav, on 07/15/2008, -4/+38I feel badly for him. Try to imagine your entire life being one thing, and one thing only: football. From high school to 30-something, you've spent 20 some years of your life learning, knowing, and immersing yourself in the sport. 13 years of your life with one team - not team, but family - he goes home, feels the emptiness of his departed father, brother in law, and sits on his tractor in a farm in mississippi thinking "well, now what?" You can't spend the last 50+ years of your life doing nothing but sitting on a tractor, ribbon cutting ceremonies, and remembering "the good old days." How do you give up everything that's embodied your life?
So now he wants back - he should be willing to play out his contract, but he's coming back to play ball, not to second string. It's stupid he's making a big funk out of this - he could stay quiet, consult rogers, then get traded away before the real season starts. It makes me sad to see a conflicted hero cause so much collateral damage.
Grass is always greener, I suppose.- cryptomystic, on 07/15/2008, -6/+7Sorry, I don't feel bad for him at all.
He's rich, has a loving family and is a legend in his sport.
It's time for him to let it go and let the younger kids play, he is being selfish. - Trendecide, on 07/15/2008, -0/+12This is completely reminiscent of my life with porn.
- insomniac8400, on 07/15/2008, -3/+2It's called a job. Most people have one.
- schneb, on 07/15/2008, -2/+1Visions of Brett in an old van out in the middle of nowhere, throwing passes over a video camera on a tripod.
- napk, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1This made me laugh, but come on... first ballot Hall of Famer.
- stevieraveon, on 07/15/2008, -0/+0You coach...or become a commentator.
- Exact0, on 07/15/2008, -0/+0The 39 million dollars plays a big part in trading him. Just saying. And the fact that the Packers just drafted two QBs doesn't help either.
I have no problem with someone doing what they know and love, but this is all Favre's fault. Ownership flew down to Mississippi and BEGGED him to come back. Now he's saying they forced him to retire. BS. Brett Farve sold tickets, jerseys, and made the city money. You think the owners "forced" him to leave? These guys want money. The fact is they don't need 39 million $s hitting their salary cap after they got three QBs because he kept telling them he was going to retire. - Migito, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3I would say that it's a stereotype that all of us Mississippians own tractors, but then I remembered that I mowed the lawn with mine just today...
- cryptomystic, on 07/15/2008, -6/+7Sorry, I don't feel bad for him at all.

- Yimyack, on 07/15/2008, -8/+0He's gonna get killed if he goes somewhere else. All he knows is Green Bay.
A new line + a new offense = certain death for Mr.Favre. - Chode2235, on 07/15/2008, -4/+14We'll take him on the Vikings. That would be F'in hilarious if only to beat the Pack twice.
- deeboe, on 07/15/2008, -3/+4As a Vikings fan, I would actually hate that. I would rather have that retard T. Jackson start every down.
- diggduggjoe, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3As a Packer fan, I would love to see it. They team has been the issue in this, not Favre. Ever since Thompson showed up, it has been the
"get the old man out of the clubhouse" game. Favre does not hate football as much as the Packer organization that will not give him chance to win. - BringerOD, on 07/19/2008, -0/+0Would love to see this. Would love to see Favre kick there arse.
- B3000, on 07/15/2008, -6/+9So I guess all that crying was for nothing?
- muleskinner, on 07/15/2008, -10/+9Oh Jebus. I hate this kind of *****. He left on an awesome note, why couldn't he just let it stay that way?
These big stars get so used to everyday fame once they leave it for a bit they start having withdrawals.- psychotron, on 07/15/2008, -4/+2Awesome note? A game-killing dumb interception on the NFC Championship that prevented his team from going to the Super Bowl? This after years of futility and mediocrity? Yeah, awesome note.
- mpete510, on 07/15/2008, -7/+14Brett Favre,
Man up and play, or retire. It's that easy. Stop wasting everyone's time. I am sick and tired of watching people talk about you on Sportscenter.- coreman, on 07/15/2008, -2/+2Then stop watching sportscenter and complaining about someone "wasting" your time.
- nevetssav, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3He's trying to play - the team he's played with for years says "we've moved on [from our hall-of-fame legend in 4 months]." Rodgers should sit for another season, and the GM and Coach shouldn't let Favre slip through their hands. If nothing else, get Favre to play every other game - god knows Rodgers won't step up right away.
- Exact0, on 07/15/2008, -1/+0Slip through their hands? They asked him to come back. They needed time to scout QBs and other draft picks depending on if he came back or not. They told him we need to know soon. Football is a business after all, and businesses look at the bottom line.
And about Favre playing every other game...are you serious? Do you realize what it would do to Rodgers (or Favre) if one throws a couple INTs and the crown starts chanting the other guys name? Not to mention the divide it would throw into the locker room.
- Exact0, on 07/15/2008, -1/+0Slip through their hands? They asked him to come back. They needed time to scout QBs and other draft picks depending on if he came back or not. They told him we need to know soon. Football is a business after all, and businesses look at the bottom line.
- sigafoo, on 07/15/2008, -8/+2Brett, first you need to get your self official re-instated to the league. Then they'll see what they can do.
- yhup, on 07/15/2008, -15/+2no more. i love favre. but please...
a-rod is the guy now- cdahlkvist, on 07/15/2008, -3/+2Okay, you keep Rodgers and we'll take Favre on the Vikings.
- serif69, on 07/15/2008, -1/+5Alex Rodriguez is the Pack's new QB? News to me...
- cdahlkvist, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1Yeah, they couldn't even come up with an original nickname for Aaron Rodgers.
- suckaPU, on 07/15/2008, -13/+5i always thought brett favre was a huge redneck idiot douchebag... this isn't really a surprise
- badfrog, on 07/15/2008, -5/+10I didn't want him to retire in the first place. Now he's just jerking everyone around and making himself look bad.
- nojingoist, on 07/15/2008, -9/+13I don't feel sorry for him one bit. I'm usually a player advocate over owners/management, but in this case Farve is someone who is an attention whore and has been overrated for years. I don't dislike the Packers at all, and I think they'll be better off with Rogers anyway.
Favre's good 'ole boy routine got tired long ago, and the media's been swinging on his nuts the last decade and a half.- Kolbeck10, on 07/15/2008, -4/+5In the end, for me, it only comes down to who the Packers are better off with, and I just don't see how they are better off with Aaron Rodgers.
- napk, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Yeah, 13-3... pretty overrated.
- rdldr1, on 07/15/2008, -10/+4He's the Hillary Clinton of the NFL. He's even divided up Packers Fans; half of them want him to stay retired, the other half want him back as the starting QB.
- Jakeman21co, on 07/15/2008, -5/+9In the last 5 years he has thrown 100 Int to his 128 TD. Not too good. Add in another 11 fumbles over those 5 years and an avg 85 QB rating and you can see he is losing his touch. Sure i will admit he did a great job last year, but i think his best days are behind him, and which ever team he comes back for will be worse of with him.
- akatherder, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Here are some interesting stats from last season.
28 TDs, 15 INTs, and a 96 passer rating.
Total yards: 4th
TDs: 6th
INTs: 9th
Rating: 6th
I'm sick of Favre, but you can't argue with numbers and wins.- Jakeman21co, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3I gave him props for last season, but in my opinion you can't look at one year's stats, 4 years of bad play can't be wiped away by one good year. And he did totally choke in the NFC Championship game.
- multimed, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0Not that he doesn't deserve some of the blame, but there were a lot of other factors with those lousy years. Mike Sherman the GM ran that team into the ground - 3 players from his three drafts are still with the team today (4-6 years later). That's 3 out of 21 players drafted. The other thing was that Sherman didn't actually coach Favre - he was treated with kid gloves, did whatever he wanted. Not only did that contribute poor performance on the field, but also served to make him into the prima donna he's become today. McCarthy is certainly responsible for a lot of Farve's re-emergence. Actually coaching him, yelling at him when he makes bone-headed decisions like throwing late, deep over the middle.
Of course Farve's father being gone plays a huge role too - without him, Favre is surrounded by people who are on his side & agree with him no matter what. For anyone who's seen, heard or read much about him, can anyone actually imagine Brett would be acting this way if big Irv were still around?
- akatherder, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4Here are some interesting stats from last season.
- Kolbeck10, on 07/15/2008, -9/+15I can't believe some of you guys can't see past the Packer PR on this subject. Ever since Ted Thompson took over as Packer GM he's been trying to force Brett Favre out the door, thus the great strain with which Brett has had to make his decisions. Of course, this past year, after the tough loss against New York, Brett was still feeling the effects. Ted Thompson wants to put in Aaron Rodgers, his FIRST draft pick as GM. Thompson's ultimate fate as a GM relies on Rodgers producing, something he can't do while he is on the bench.
Perhaps Favre was hasty to retire. I do believe, however, that he has every right to come back. If retirement wasn't everything it was cracked up to be, he can do whatever he wants. Ultimately though, I don't believe Favre retiring was legitimate. There is a reason he never filed the papers for retirement, he wanted to keep playing. He needed someway to either return to the Packers, something that is unlikely with Thompson as GM ("Sure, come back as a backup to a guy with 0 career starts" basically means "GTFO plz"), or get traded to a team with Superbowl potential.- TherealObadiah, on 07/15/2008, -5/+7Great post. You get it.
- marcduke, on 07/15/2008, -3/+7Please show me where Ted Thompson has tried to force Brett out. Maybe by building a great young defense to support him so he doesn't have to gunsling every game? Or maybe by assembling a young core of very good receivers - so many that they installed a 5 WIDE FORMATION?
Favre points out that he lost his "Trust"(not even sure if that means much these days) with Thompson because:
A. He didn't try hard enough o get Moss into Green Bay
B. He didn't resign Rivera(broken neck) and Wahle(overpaid)
C. He didn't bring Mariucci in as coach(I'm all for fellow Yoopers but Steve is in over his head at the NFL level) and hired McCarthy. You know, the guy who was Coach of the Year runner-up?.
Looks to me that Thompson was right on 2 of those 3 things. As well as the Javon Walker situation(which Favre made worse) and reviving Charles Woodson's career.
Thompson runs this team, not Favre and not the Green Bay Favre fans. Brett needs to start acting more like man and less like a child who isn't getting his way.- alpine75, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2"Thompson's ultimate fate as a GM relies on Rodgers producing"
Riiiight. So, did you judge Ron Wolf based on Terrell Buckley?
And what do you mean by Brett was still feeling the effects? Effects of what? I'll tell you what effects he's feeling. Fact is Farve cannot handle cold weather anymore. He can handle snow but not sub zero temps, something he used to excel at. - multimed, on 07/16/2008, -0/+0@marcdukemarcduke said"

Compare that to the Sherman era where there were times at the end of games when they were forced to use tight ends as WR in the 4 WR sets.
I'd also argue that not signing Moss was definitely the right move as well - and not just because of the very solid and very deep WR corp they had. Moss could fit in at New England because it was a very veteran team - to bring him in with the one of the youngest teams in the league it's really hard to imagine there wouldn't have been problems.
Oh and @Kolbeck10 - there were no papers for Favre to file. The NFL office classified him as retired based on the evidence - ie his press conference. He has yet to file the necessary paperwork to petition to be made an active player again. Because he still isn't 100%. So he's throwing the team in termoil and still isn't sure of it.
- alpine75, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2"Thompson's ultimate fate as a GM relies on Rodgers producing"
- multimed, on 07/16/2008, -1/+0Just dumb, this whole idea that Thompson pushed Favre out. The timing was unfortunate - that Sherman ran the team so far into the ground that the team needed as much rebuilding as it did. Thompson built the team through the draft & for long term and it was a shame for Brett that that meant a couple of rough seasons. But it's tough to argue with the past season - NFC title game with one of the youngest teams in the league - and they did it without the boom & bust and salary cap hell that trying to buy a team quickly almost always leads to.
Thompson wants to win - at the end of last season, going into this one Favre still gave them the best chance to win it all and Thompson would have gladly welcomed him back. He's been able to admit mistakes or let "his" guys go when that's been the best for the team and if Favre kept winning & kept coming back, he'd have no problem letting Rogers slip away to free agency.
- Haasmosis, on 07/15/2008, -3/+8Don't choke in Big Games. Then the Pack will want you back. Since the Superbowl loss, nearly every single playoff run has ended with a Favre InterceptionFest. Thanks for the good times, but we need new blood.
- Lax32, on 07/15/2008, -5/+19They aren't going to start him because he already told them he was retiring and they want to give Aaron Rodgers the job (who, I might add, was a 1st round pick and has waited 3 years on the bench). They also aren't going to just release him because he could go to another team like the Bears or Vikings and possibly spoil their chances at a superbowl. Its a business, he doesn't get to do whatever he wants.
I'm personally sick of all his drama. Thats really what his entire career has been now that I look back at it. First he got kicked out of Atlanta because he was showing up hungover to practice every morning and asked everyone to sympathize with him. Then he had his whole prescription pain killer addiction and he asked everyone to sympathize with him. Then the last couple years he has been contemplating retirement and every year screwing over the Packers by not telling them if he is coming back until late, and he once again asked us to sympathize with him. Now he told everyone he is retiring but apparently wants to come back, and I'm not in the least bit sorry for him.- cryptomystic, on 07/15/2008, -2/+2Truth.

- admdrew, on 07/15/2008, -0/+4I like everyone better when on vicodin and whiskey.
- kolop1, on 07/15/2008, -11/+7I wish the over rated, media hyped player would just retire. He threw too many interceptions to be considered one of the bests, and had way to many bad games too.
- marcduke, on 07/15/2008, -2/+7That's a bunch of garbage and you know it. Take your blind Favre hate elsewhere.
What he's doing now is terrible to both the Packers and his legacy but don't even try to say he wasn't a great QB.- kolop1, on 07/15/2008, -2/+1He holds the int. record. How is that garbage? You prick.
- marcduke, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2Ooo, name calling - must have hit a nerve there. Yup, he holds the Career TD record, Career Yardage and most consecutive games by a QB too.
You say he can't be considered one of the "bests" - I say you're dead wrong. - kolop1, on 07/16/2008, -1/+1His career TD record is easily counter by the fact that he averages 2.7 ints. a game. He cost them as many games as he won for them. He generally sucked in the playoffs with an under .500 record and most of the play off games he played ending with him throwing an int. Every good record he has is counter by every bad record he has. Making him a mediocre QB at best.
- marcduke, on 07/16/2008, -0/+12.7 per game, really? So, you're just inventing stats now? Try 1.138 per game or 3.3% of the time which is right up there with the other Hall of Fame QBs. But don't let the facts get in the way of your argument.
Won't make excuses for his recent playoff mistakes but he's 12-10 overall, again you're just making stuff up.
Here let me help you out:

Let the hate keep coming, man, it's comical at this point.
- marcduke, on 07/15/2008, -2/+7That's a bunch of garbage and you know it. Take your blind Favre hate elsewhere.
- lpferris, on 07/15/2008, -12/+12Am I the only one in the world who doesn't give a crap about Brett Favre?
- nevetssav, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3I'm sorry - we're working on tailoring the entire sports world to your wants and desires. Please, let us know when we cover something that better fits what you want. Really. It matters.
- modsuperstar, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5Trade him to the 49ers. Lead them to the playoffs, mentor the young QBs they have and ride off into the sunset after this season.
Pipe dream I know, but a guy can dream can't he? - cadmiumpaint, on 07/15/2008, -4/+6Let Farve play forever.....you can't say no to one of the greatest to ever play the game.
let Aaron Rogers go to a team where he can actually play instead of spending his career holding a clipboard.- ChaosProfessor, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4that makes no sense spend millions on Rogers let him learn from the best there has ever been and then give him away no way he is going to be a great QB one of these days
- mlvassallo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3I believe the Packers are saying No to him. That seems to be the problem. Well... his problem.
- Locnar, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4Ok, Bad move on Favre's part. He should have thought a little harder before he decided to retire.
BUT!
This guy can still play, Why the hell wouldn't the Packers want him back? And if its because they think he can't play any more whats the harm in releasing him? If they feel his replacement is a better QB then let him go and he will fall on his face...
All I know is there will be hell to pay in Cheese town if he goes...He is a God to Green Bay.. and there the only city that OWNS there franchise outright.. There gm best be looking for cover and a new job..- NachoBusiness, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Actually he thought it through, I think. He realized he wouldn't get much attention if he did his little "Should I quit or not?" routine for the 7th straight year... so being a drama queen he realized he had to escalate to actually quitting then coming back. These people need more attention each time, and he figured out how to get it, and now he has it.
- adamcrigger, on 07/15/2008, -0/+5I have such a man-crush on this man.
- mlvassallo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+10Isn't Brett aware he is on the cover of Madden this year? If he plays he is going to get injured anyhow.
- herbertstrasse, on 07/15/2008, -0/+3TRUTH. I saw the cover and thought, "oh, well this is a first. I guess we won't have to worry about the Madden Curse this time." Bad, bad things could happen if he comes back.
- Turbojugend27, on 07/15/2008, -3/+1Nope, that is now a myth, Ovechkin had an amazing year when he was on the NHL cover for EA. Played all 82 games too
- mlvassallo, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2I wasn't aware Madden had anything to do with the NHL.
- ithejosh, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Dugg for complete retardedness
- Veretax, on 07/15/2008, -0/+6The packers are idiots if they don't either bring him back to compete for the starting job...or trade/release him.
- pyroglass, on 07/15/2008, -3/+0after watching him lose to NY in the playoffs, you could tell the age caught up with him. The cold was getting to him more than it should have. all in all, he needs to stay retired or just play games in warmer temperatures.
- napk, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Wow, that was the dumbest analysis I've heard yet.
He led his team to 13-3 during the regular season. People have bad games. ***** happens.
- napk, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Wow, that was the dumbest analysis I've heard yet.
- jt32470, on 07/15/2008, -3/+3that's some real journalism work there by fox ...why doesn't fox always ask the president the hard questions?
how come fox does a better job covering sports, than they do this administration?
oh, yeah 'cause sports are a fantasy world, and this administration is real.
i give two ***** about favre/farve however you spell his name. He is doing well for himself, that's cool, but that doesn't put food on my table, doesn't drop gas prices. ***** football, ***** sports, and ***** the olympics
thank you- HoratioHellpop, on 07/15/2008, -0/+0and, last but not least ... ***** you.
- AddiX, on 07/15/2008, -6/+3Farve, you have pulled this crap for 3 years now, and for the rest of us who arent fans of you, please just stay out of the media. Are you forgetting the two years before last year where you were ranked among the worst QBs in the league and were ready to retire? Not only has GB delt with your ***** for all this time, but they also gave you a nice contract even when they thought you were on your way out.
Is anyone forgetting the rookie like interceptions he threw in the playoffs the last few times he was there? I know most people will come to his defense, but get over it. - Turbojugend27, on 07/15/2008, -5/+1cry cry cry, it isn't all about me anymore, let me back in the limelight
- ArenasG, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3All the haters here are bashing one of the most genuine people in sports. You don't like his hypocrisy, so you assume he was putting on a show? That guy shows everything he is feeling when he is feeling it. He didn't fake cry, he isn't seeking attention by pulling a 'stunt', and none of this is a 'routine'.
This man is what is good about sports. He has a passion for what he does for a living, and just because he thought he was done and now he realizes he misses what he loves, he's a douchebag?
Shame on you for bashing a sports star for being human.- raffithegreat, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1this isn't the first time he's retired. he should have learned by now. so yes, he is a douchebag
- xevidentx, on 07/15/2008, -1/+3I'm not a packers fan but i think the best move for them would be just trade him and get some draft picks out of it. he already "retired" now he changed his mind.
its like when a girlfriend breaks up with you, then you move on, then she comes and wants you back but you've already moved on. GB needs to give the rookie QB a chance and look toward the future!- nevetssav, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6It's like if that girlfriend also gave the best head you could possibly receive in the forseeable future. Go with that one, or the shaky, experimental chick that's talked a lot about blowjobs, but never actually given one?
Cute metaphor, though.- morg666, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2That is why you kept the first girlfriend on to mentor the younger, less experienced, one. I'm guessing after 3 years Rodgers knows his way around a di...err football.
- prem444, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1@nevetssav - Thats a jewel! Totally cracked me up!
- nevetssav, on 07/15/2008, -1/+6It's like if that girlfriend also gave the best head you could possibly receive in the forseeable future. Go with that one, or the shaky, experimental chick that's talked a lot about blowjobs, but never actually given one?
- jodofashodo, on 07/15/2008, -1/+4Everyone, it's Rodgers, not Rogers...
- napk, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1It doesn't really matter.
- alpine75, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2I love Favre, I have watched him from day 1 with the Packers. But I've had it with what he's put us Packers fans through the past 5 years. Every off season he waffles with what to do. Then, finally, he makes up his mind this off season and retires.felt the pain, but we were ready to move on. Then, alas! According to reports we've read, only mere weeks after his news conference, Favre changed his mind yet again!!
For the sake of the future of the Packers organization, we need him to move on. I think the whole adoration of Favre is out of proportion anyway. For myself, It hurt more when Reggie White retired than Favre's retirement. Of course, White then "unretired" a year later and had a mediocre year in Carolina.
Sadly this is what will probably happen to Favre. - parasitemite, on 07/15/2008, -2/+4People on digg pretty much just skim the article and then throw insults at whoever they can. He's a good guy and has some heart... Favre got screwed over by the Packers with a rushed/forced decision.
- kolop1, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1He is a drunken wife beater. But has a good heart.
- beahmad, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1rushed decision? what player are you talking about?
- dafragsta, on 07/15/2008, -2/+3All you guys saying he's a jerk because he's on again and off again don't seem to realize HE'S BEEN PRESSURED INTO RETIREMENT EVER SINCE THEY SIGNED AARON ***** ROGERS. Jesus ***** Christ. He wants to play football. How does that make him a jerk? There might've been MANY factors in play that he's not in control of that has made him go on-again, off-again. I bet a lot of those factors were front office related. He also had one of his best seasons last year. I'm sure that didn't make him feel any better about retiring.
- alpine75, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2Gee, I wonder why? Might it have something to do with the fact that he keeps saying he is considering retirement? He started that talk BEFORE Thompson became the G.M. In fact it's been 5 years now he's been pulling this crap. Now, he finally DOES retire then waffles again! It's time for Favre to move on.
- raffithegreat, on 07/15/2008, -1/+1he's been talking about retiring seemingly every day for 3 years! can you blame the packers for trying to prepare for that day? and when it comes, they put everything in place, just to have that plan yanked away? favre blew it against the giants last year, which was probably the only packers game i watched in it's entirety last season. he was absolutely aweful. eli manning completely outplayed him, and those conditions were supposed to favor favre.
i'm not saying he should be banished because of that, he should be banished because he himself chose to by retiring, for the third time the day after their season was over, 6 fricking months ago.
- japanesepagoda, on 07/15/2008, -1/+2The packers should just keep him, if he decides to come back. Brett is an ***** for wanting to leave a fan base that has stuck by him for the majority of his career. Green Bay seems to be his home, he should suck it up and accusing other people; he's old.
- wilsondus, on 07/15/2008, -0/+2he doesn't want to be called a "Packer" anymore... maybe he really wants to go to San Francisco...
- JasonCox, on 07/15/2008, -2/+2Read your contract, jack ass.
