Big Brown wins Preakness, sets up Triple Crown try
hosted.ap.org — Big Brown has won the Preakness in dominating fashion Saturday following a win in the Kentucky Derby to set himself up for a Triple Crown try in three weeks in the Belmont. It's been 30 years since Affirmed swept the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont to become horse racing's 11th Triple Crown winner. The sport is starved to anoint a new king,

- swordedge, on 05/18/2008, -2/+6and now to date my self
I remember Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and The pair of Affirmed and Alygar. Alygar finished second to Affirmed in ALL THREE races. A feat that has never been done till 1978.- jpole1, on 05/18/2008, -0/+4I think you mean Alydar? The Belmont between Affirmed and Alydar was an AMAZING race... Affirmed won by literally a nose.
- OKeric, on 05/18/2008, -9/+3So many people are going to be pissed when this horse loses finally. Everyone is getting so accustomed to him winning that they're all probably betting on him.
- LUCCHINA, on 05/18/2008, -10/+3Hehe... Great Post !
- brantw, on 05/18/2008, -7/+2Breaking News!!!!
- xmizzbojanglesx, on 05/18/2008, -3/+11Big Brown will definitely win. He's an amazing, strong horse.. can't wait for Belmont!
- xatx2, on 05/18/2008, -3/+4hell yeah big brown is gonna dominate that *****
- jpole1, on 05/18/2008, -2/+7One of the best horses I've ever seen in my lifetime.. Barbaro was probably better, but never got the chance to prove it.
Saturday's race was the easiest win I have ever seen. The Belmont should be no challenge.- Cerebral, on 05/19/2008, -0/+1I've got a question about this upcoming race and the one he just won: How do they decide which horses run for the races? In other words I was watching Sportscenter the morning of the race and they were showing how the entire rest of the field for the race was mediocre. They said that Big Brown has won more money than all the other horses combined (they backed it up with numbers).
Someone told me that it's just whomever signs up races. So if all the other horses are crap in the race is it that great of a feat? How do they keep the sport(if you call it that) pure in the sense that why would they allow crap horses running in such a high profile race?- RockinU, on 05/30/2008, -0/+0They don't limit the number of horses who can enter the race, all you have to do is put up a hefty entry fee (which eliminates most of the crappy ones). There is a limited number of horses that are allowed to run in the race, so they look at the credentials of all the horses that enter the race and weight them in to fill the number they want based on their past performances. Wins help, stakes wins help more, graded stakes performance helps most. There aren't very many "crap" horses that run in the triple crown races, they are the best 3 year old horses in the world, the purse and prestige insure that, Hope that helps.

- Lancer010, on 05/18/2008, -1/+6On another note my friend drank so much in the infield he bet $100 on Tres Borrachos
- duggdowncatisad, on 05/18/2008, -0/+0$4,300 would have been a nice score, too bad.
- Number23, on 05/18/2008, -2/+6That horse just loped to victory, it never seem like it was running at full speed. I can't wait for the Belmont!
- kevdotbadger, on 05/18/2008, -1/+16When i was in jail, i had a friend called big brown.

- Dumbledorito, on 05/18/2008, -13/+2So did the losers get shot again? I don't recall all of this violence being in the sport until recently...

- Kinnkster, on 05/18/2008, -2/+1Looks like another $2 win for me, boys.

- snapple232, on 05/18/2008, -21/+2The horse didn't 'win' anything. It ran around in a circle with a human sitting on it and happened to do it faster than a bunch of other horses. It had absolutely no idea what it was doing. I'm no PETA freak but horse racing isn't a real sport.
- Ze1da, on 05/18/2008, -0/+1Spoken by someone who has never ridden a race horse. All of the ex racers that I have ridden have a deep seated passion to race and win.
- snapple232, on 05/18/2008, -4/+0I never said anything about racers did I? But the horse itself didn't win anything.
- Pyralis, on 05/19/2008, -0/+3It won a spot in a breeding barn where people will probably pay at least half a million dollars in stud fees - a lifetime of comfort and the very best care, lots of attention, and lots of ladies. Horses know when they have it good.
- RockinU, on 05/30/2008, -0/+0That horse knew exactly what it was doing, and it was really enjoying how well it did it. Horses like most animals are competitive, any time spent around them show us that.

- ianthepetrock, on 05/18/2008, -13/+2Does anyone here care about this? Can't horse racing lovers go to a horse racing site for this news?
- roflganker, on 05/18/2008, -0/+3Don't read it and respond to it, dick.
- briansalo, on 05/18/2008, -2/+5This was the last thing I'd honestly expect to see on Digg, I'm not complaining at all but whoa... lol
- mellomeh, on 05/18/2008, -8/+4This is great news for Obama.
- JointVenture, on 05/18/2008, -2/+3Obama likes horses, just look at the face on his wife.
- duggdowncatisad, on 05/18/2008, -2/+0As an african american, he's probably hung like a horse.
- imashmuck, on 05/18/2008, -0/+3Big Brown hasn't even been challenged yet. It'll be nice to see how great of horse he is when he's finally challenged.
- zeiben, on 05/18/2008, -5/+2Hell yeah, he's gonna win it all! We'll finally have some sound foreign policy for a change! Still, he'll have to work hard to beat Red Warmonger. Oh wait... wrong horse race.
- majortom1981, on 05/18/2008, -0/+2I could be at belmont that day but figures i will be in vegas. Thats why it will win. A long island horse winning the tripple crown on long island and i wont be here to see it.

- wheresjim, on 05/18/2008, -1/+3That horse juices.
Winstrol FTW! - mrzack, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2I'll be Pushing for Brown..., I bet he'll Flush the competition down the drain, hopefully he'll have in his tank enough Gas down the stretch..., don't Poop on our parade and expectations by not winning the triple Crown, his grumbling in his stomach signifies his hunger to win. don't forget to lighten the Load before the big race!! Go for number 1, nobody remembers number 2!!!

- SonicRift, on 05/19/2008, -0/+2The Preakness was just a relaxing stroll for Big Brown. I'd love to see what happens when he pushes himself. Handicappers were worried that he'd still be tired from the Derby, or the cross country journey to Pimlico, or he'd sense that Dutrow was nervous. Looks like this horse just loves to run.
- rohitnarayan, on 05/20/2008, -0/+0YOU GUYS WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The raw power of passion & the spirit of cinema come together. Check this out to see what I really mean. http://www.film-crew.blogspot.com/ - descarada, on 06/07/2008, -0/+0I know you guys are all into horse racing, but have you ever thought about what it really is? A horse doesn't finish growing until it is 5 years old. Breeders/trainers won't wait due to the cost of keeping a horse that long sothey run them as 2 year oldand reck their legs. A horse lives 20-30 years, this means the animalis done before it has even begun.
